Pair of Louis XVI Candelabras

Pair of Louis XVI Candelabras
Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843)

Thomire was the principle bronze creator of the Empire Style in France circa 1810. His works appear in the Louvre, Paris and the Pitti Palace in Florence. These refined Louis XVI candelabras each display a classically draped female figure in patinated bronze holding a gilded cornucopia supporting three scrolling foliated arms. The figures stand on a blue marble base. The architectural character of these pieces are harmoniously underscored by the opposition of the materials used and by the skillfully carved detail.
